L.A. Occupies its own niche
The City Hall protest is big on social experimentation, making it a potential path to real change. Californians have done it before. A woman patrolled the tents of Occupy L.A., trying to drum up enthusiasm for an evening march. Each time she hollered into the fog, a group of followers echoed her, in an Occupy version of call-and-response known as the human microphone: "If you could join us," Shayne Eastin cried. - Ah, California! I recently revisited Occupy Los Angeles. Police were all smiles, yoga class was in full stretch, dinner was free dogs and fries, and surf was running 2-4 feet out of the southwest.
